Jenny BrownĀ The creators excuse was that at the time there where tons of films where the man had to change for the woman( e.g bad boy reforms movies)and in some versions of the play they drop hints that sandy may have wanted the change even without the other girls teasing her and her boyfriend being kinda a dick but even considering all this it still comes across as one sided sandy gives up her reputation possibly stable future along with her health and the changes that johnny makes are less negative

Jenny BrownĀ The only thing that he really gives up that is not tied to his appearance is he's spending less time with his friends and the second sandy rejects his attempt at reform he's back to his old self just now he has a track letter

EllaĀ Same. My friend lives this movie but I just donāt understand why?? All the messages are just wrong. It basically implies that if you didnāt smoke, have sex, and flunk school then you werenāt ever going to get the guy. Itās just all wrong š.

MarshĀ I dislike almost everyone in this movie most of the time (ādid she put up a fightā is particularly yikes). Rizzo is somewhat sympathetic. But yeah as soon as she changed her look for him, he ditched his new look. Thereās no guarantee that he wouldnāt ditch her again when he got bored of the new faƧade or aged out of his rebellious teen phase.

Alex PaulĀ I loved this movie as a kid, but as I grew up I realized how toxic the entire story is. I still sing the music whenever it comes on because I still know nearly every word to the entire soundtrack, but I don't think I can ever re-watch it.

GraceĀ I've never even seen the movie. Something about the girl chasing the guy and giving up herself in the process doesn't intrigue me. Also just not a fan of singing in movies in general.

Laura BrackenĀ Totally agree. Love the music; hate the message. I do watch and read a lot of media that doesn't stand the test of time for reasons like this.

Linda KellyĀ I didnāt see it this way. They were still the same people in the end. They simply compromised a bit. He once thought he was too cool to be a jock and she was miss goodie two shoes. They met in the middle. Compromise is important in relationships.

Boo booĀ Really though, canāt we just enjoy it. Besides, not everything has to be so perfectly PC! Itās a movie for God sake. People really are delicate little snowflakes these days arenāt they.
