Topic: The Ultimatum: Queer Love
**SPOILERS** Just finished watching the reunion and I cannot believe it. I never would’ve guessed the only couple to stay together would’ve been … drumroll … Sam & Aussie. Their communication issues throughout the show were jarring and they felt like one of the more distant couples. But bam! Everyone else broke up and they’re still planning a wedding. Crazy! Who was your favorite couple? Did you predict any of the proposals/answers/reunion reveals? #realitydating

Marsh i've been listening to people who've BEEN on reality shows lately and are now breaking their NDAs. something that gets talked about is how coached the situations are. people get worked up into feeling specific ways for the camera, or an excess of that feeling. perhaps the distant couple survived bc they refused to play up those hyperactive emotions for the camera, and thus came off as distant, bc they were never getting on that roller coaster to begin with.

Marsh (note: i've never watched the show, i'm theorizing)

Laura C. George I think you’re totally right. I always watch these types of shows as a guilty pleasure. I know how manipulated they are (which is kind of tragic for these real people trying to live their lives) but it’s still super engaging to watch.

Marsh oh same, i never forget its 'reality'. part of the reason i gravitate towards animal-related (or home improvement) reality shows, like 'cat from hell'. the focus isn't so much on lovebombing human beings into artificial emotional highs and then undermining their confidence and trust into those crashes, it's on making sure people are more educated about their pets and meeting their needs. animals can't compartmentalize their feelings and thus display signs of abuse much more clearly for the cameras. i can also spot crappy contractor work fairly easily
