Anyone read this or other books by Christopher Moore? I'm eager to get into his writing but am a bit hesitant. How far off the cliff does he go in terms of sheer ridiculousness? Too crazy to enjoy or just the right amount? Looking for the right dose of silly.

Kim G I think all of his books are the perfect mix of silliness & ridiculousness. I'm biased as he's one of my favorite authors. He's also the nicest author I've met in person. Highly recommend

Jen Mitchell Razzmatazz is another title of his that drew my attention (love those hard-boiled 1940s detective dramas). Have you read that? Thoughts?

Kim G Read everything, several multiple times. I love Razzmatazz too. I love his take on a 40s drama. Lamb will never not crack me up. It's very hard picking a favorite of his. I recommend Carl Hiaasen too if you like Moore

Heidi Wempen I think he balances it really well. There is a lot of silliness, but never at the expense of the plot. It always makes sense in context of the story. My favorites are Lamb and the Fool books. My favorite author!

Jen Mitchell Nice, so the silliness isn't just like a superfluous, humorous little dust bunny that floats on the edges of the story. Now I guess I just have the tough job of choosing where to start. 😀

Heidi Wempen Yeah! The humor is integrated into the story things are funny because the situations and the characters are funny, or nuts, or something vaguely otherworldly is playing cat's cradle with a character's life. I started with Lamb, which is a telling of the life of Jesus by his best childhood friend. Still hands down my favorite book. Noir and its sequel Razamataz are newer ones, but I think would be good intros!

David Rachau One of my all time favorite authors. I always recommend A Dirty Job, Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story, or Lamb as an entry point, but IotSLN will be fine. I'd say he ranks somewhere between Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams on the silliness scale.

Jen Mitchell Thanks! That's helpful. I've always found Pratchett a bit challenging (so much going on and so many characters), but I love Adam's. Now I can't wait to try out some Moore.

Kim G He's also a blast to follow on Twitter. He interacts all the time, especially if you send him a squirrel of the day pic. It's fun seeing him on threads now too
