Topic: The Nightingale

How mature is this book? Is it pg-13 (no excessive swearing, no spice, no high graphic gore), or a bit more mature?

Adetomiwa Afolabi I would say 15+, there’s no swearing as far as i can remember but there are some gory scenes (blood/injuries etc.)

Genevieve (she/her) 🏳️‍🌈📚 I would agree; I’d say about 16+. There’s violence & gore, brief fade to black explicit details that are pretty mild, and mentions/brief depictions of sexual assault.

Slender Woods "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah is a historical fiction novel that is generally suitable for adult readers. It deals with heavy and mature themes, including war, survival, sacrifice, loss, love, and resilience. The story is set during World War II in Nazi-occupied France, and it follows the lives of two sisters who embark on separate paths to survive and resist the horrors of the war. Due to the mature and emotionally intense nature of the content, "The Nightingale" is recommended for adult readers, typically aged 18 and above. It contains depictions of violence, suffering, and the harsh realities of war, which may not be suitable for younger audiences. Readers who appreciate historical fiction, particularly stories set during World War II and focused on strong female characters, may find "The Nightingale" to be a compelling and moving read. However, it's important to note that the book does delve into heavy and serious themes throughout its narrative.
