Any advice to get out of a reading slump? I have so many books to read and so much free time but I can't get myself to read. I read one page then get bored even if the book is interesting.

Madison C Maybe you could try audio books. Or set a timer and make yourself read until it goes off, then if you're into the book you can keep reading and if not just call it quits. Pick books that are short, fast paced, and easy to get into. And if nothing's working, don't force it. Sometimes your brain just needs a break.

Ebru Audiobooks or graphic novels? It’s a bit easier to get into and through. How about rereading old favorites? Since it’s practically guaranteed a good time. YA / middle grade / children’s lit can also potentially be useful, since there’s usually more approachable writing in those books vs adult fiction (but still be brilliant reads).

maya Whenever I need to get out of a reading slump, I try and read short books (novellas or graphic novels) which I can get through really fast. It makes me a little more motivated to read

Elizabeth Maybe you need to get out of the house and do something different for a while. If you have less free time to read, maybe you'll want to do it more when you have the time. When I'm in a reading slump, I usually reread a favorite short novel to get out of it.

A.L I keep trying nonfiction but the way the books are written I feel like I'm doing research for an essay as opposed to reading a topic that interests me. I have only ever enjoyed 1 nonfiction book but it was an autobiography that was so heartbreaking it might aswell have been fiction.

Eva Lopez I retired end of May ‘24 and reading every day has been keeping me busy and I challenge myself to stay engaged: I will set a timer for 30 minutes (keep track) so I can go do other things and do this until I’m finished. I ended up doing this with all the books I was reading and noticed I was spending 7-8 hours per book. It helps me just for fun.

jace i love window shopping or actual shopping at book stores. it really reminds me of what’s to be found within the pages of a book and reminds me of my love for reading
