Brandon Reed To address the elephant in the room, there was a lot more nudity in this than I remembered, which makes me think I might have seen a censored version in the past. I will say that it seemed to be used primarily for comedic reasons and not for sex appeal, but it definitely didn't line up with our cultural values here in the USA in 2024.

lyzander cross I'd say it more so doesn't align with corporate values, I don't think people have become more prudish (at least not naturally) but corporations don't want to be associated with risque/spicy content. Plus more of our interactions happen online now and people are forced to censor themselves online or will be censored against their will by corporations so that skews our perception of how crass humanity is

Brandon Reed I liked how new characters were introduced at a brisk pace, but not at a rate of one per episode. Who was your favorite character? If your favorite was a main character, then who was your favorite supporting character?

lyzander cross Shampoo, I really like the idea of soulmates and it's not explored often in media especially in anime as far as I can tell, Shampoo's view on her relationship with ranma is about as close as we get in anime, I can only think of one other example in anime that gets closer.

Brandon Reed Do you think Shampoo sees Ranma as a soulmate, or as something of an arranged marriage for which she's enthusiastic?

Brandon Reed Another thing I liked about this show was how quickly arcs went. This kept jokes from being done to death. What was your favorite arc in the first season?

lyzander cross This was one of the 2 anime that shifted my perception of the medium from just viewing them as cartoons to categorizing them separately... In junior high a friend of mine introduced me to ranma 1/2 and Naruto on the same day and I think that's when it clicked for me

lyzander cross I really like Rumiko Takahashi's art style you know how supposedly the faces in anime are designed to look like cat faces rather than human faces to be cuter... I see that a lot in Rumiko Takahashi's work and they did an excellent job at translating that into a moving medium in this iteration of the anime... Them dropping the ball on that in the remake relative to this version is just one more reason the remake is a massive disappointment for me

Brandon Reed I didn't know that was the specific point of reference they used, but that makes a lot of other things make sense.
