Brandon Reed I was only able to view the director's cut, which is apparently the better version of the film by an enormous margin according to most people. Have you ever seen the theatrical version? Did you watch it on this viewing? If you've seen both, then how did they compare?

Brandon Reed I like how this film is a true melodrama in a couple different ways. Lili has to resist the Lord of Darkness in a battle of wills to ensure the unicorn's survival, and Jack has to fight him in the climactic battle between good and evil.

Brandon Reed Going back to the different cuts of the film, the ending of the theatrical version was apparently much more Hollywood happy than Ridley Scott's version, which had Jack and Lili seem to go their separate ways, or at least decide to take things slowly. This seems to come out of nowhere, but it sounds like it gives Jack and Lili's relationship a little more dimension, whereas the theatrical cut sounds like it was more of a quick wrap-up (with Darkness inexplicably laughing). Which do you prefer?

Brandon Reed Tim Curry absolutely steals the show, and I wish he'd been in more scenes.

Road Master I absolutely LOVE Tim Curry in this. He is the greatest highlight of the movie. I love the aesthetic of this movie. The way they cranked everything up to 11 in a way they haven't really done since the 80s. "You want an enchanted forest? We'll GIVE you an enchanted forest!" The textures, the colors, the visceral feel of it all. The swamp is a fantastic location and incredibly gorgeous in a very unpleasant way... Or maybe unpleasant in a gorgeous way? I'm not sure. But I don't just see the place. I FEEL it. I smell it. Do swamps like that actually exist? 🤷♂️ Doesn't matter. It's a fantastical world and I feel that's where I am when I'm watching this movie.

Brandon Reed Yeah, I was thinking that when I was watching this. "This is from the time when fantasy movies were expected to be over the top." It was a time of darkness. It was a WORLD of fear. It was the age of BAKSHI!

Road Master Also, fun fact, Meg Mucklebones, the swamp witch/ swamp hag, is played by Robert Picardo. Fans of Star Trek will recognize him as The Doctor from Voyager. Fans of Stargate will recognize him as Woolsey from the I.O.A..
