Topic: Books
So I've been thinking starting a project for a while now. (I haven't even begun it yet.) I'd like to compile a compendium or encyclopedia of fantasy creatures and races. My primary target would be fantasy authors. I'm trying to decide the best way to organize it. What I've come up with so far is 1: Alphabetical by creature/race name. 2: Country/culture of origin. 3: Creatures/races natural environment. (Forest, aquatic, frozen tundra, etc... What do you think would be best/most effective?

Science Coach I think you should start with a spreadsheet, excel for example, and then as it grows you can sort by column. Name, country, habitat, type, and so on. That may not be the final product but it will be organized

Road Master I'm already pretty sure how I'm going to start. I'm trying to figure out the best way to compile the "final" product. I know it's a long way off. But I can't stop thinking about it. It's probably a stupid mental trick to put off the actual beginning of said project. So, just maybe, if I hurry and get it sorted, it might remove that particular obstacle.

Russ Hoyt It would be a lot of work, but I think that you should do all of them and maybe more like preferred food, climate, language, music, clothing, etc. Your project made me think of an old school library card catalog where you could find sources by topic, title, or author.

Russ Hoyt If someone was trying to determine what type of being they were looking for, they could gather what they learned from the location, eye witness, etc and narrow down the list of likely suspects.
