The first hour is a bit slow, spent setting up the characters and the expedition. Once the first snow casually slices into a crevasse crossing, it’s all nail biting tension from there. What this movie does masterfully is to film the events in an almost quiet documentary style as if we the viewers are right there on that mountainside in the thick of it all and we’re telling ourselves ok this is happening..it’s kind of scary because we’re climbing a mountain and it’s supposed to be scary..but that thing that happened..really not so bad..right? Before you know it people are dying. I’ve used the word casual purposefully as that is the bizarre feel of it. Death on the mountain has a strange surreality. By the end of this movie I was wrung out to dry. "

It is also a remarkable story at that, the sort that leaves you routing for certain people, only to thrust forward an unpredictable finish that is most probably the reason I absolutely love film adaptions of true stories. This film is a story of incredible hope, triumph, and the brutal reality of the danger of the most breathtaking natural wonders of our earth and those who dare to explore it to it's depths and peaks!
