"This was not at all what I expected. But it’s one of the best movies this year and a sure Oscar nom in several categories. A brilliant coming of age story that is brutally, painfully, uncomfortably honest. Perfect performance from the graceful Joan Chen, who has been in a movie almost every year since 1985. She embodies the curse of the unbreakable single mom. The entire cast is phenomenal. Set in 2008, a pleasant look the birth of what social media would become. Booming soundtrack too. "
"i saw 0.5 seconds of this trailer and immediately knew i needed to get my butt to the theater. and i devoured it sincerely. i love a movie that just feels like someone’s life, through all the hardships & embarrassing moments. it’s so vulnerable. it’s so comforting. that shot of the cloud painting as the lights shift with the door opening sealed the deal for this being my favorite film of the year thus far. mothers & kids man….."
"Very, very well done coming of age story. Cinematography was superb, reminded me of the camera use in Mid90s. The film's biggest strength is that it has a ton of heart. The cast was phenomenal. Story wise, it's your typical coming of age story, but this movie's plot was well contained, and it's told at a great pace. Overall, Didi is a heartfelt, funny, and well made film that honestly the whole family can enjoy."
"first of all **** josh he got what he deserved ‼️‼️ second of all this movie made me cry like a little bitch baby like this movie is so me coded . socially not culturally ofc… like the paramore shirts and posters and mentions like okay MEEEEE and i know its set in 2008 but actually seeing the language that was used like ‘water yew doing?’ like that gave me vietnam flashbacks. but also the awkwardness and insecurities he felt like so meeeeeeee. coming of age movies my beloved they could never make me hate you. also dont know why the older sibling leaving the younger sibling for college trope got to me like im literally an only child… but i still got so sad like i swear i could feel his pain"
