"Teenage best friends and entrepreneurs, A.J. and Moose, are always hustling to make money. Set in the 90s, these guys create all kinds of hijinks in pursuit of the almighty dollar. They have the opportunity to run the Snack Shack at the community pool, all the while contending with neighborhood bullies, strict parents, and competing for the affections of the new girl. This movie was mostly funny until the final act that surprisingly tugs firmly at your heartstrings. Overall, a great entry into the teenage angst/comedy genre. 8/10"
"In my daily struggle for something new to watch I found this buried eight swipes deep on MGM+. Never heard of it before. Definitely one of my favorite movies of the year. Written and directed by the guy who did the fantastic Dinner in America, it’s a coming of age comedy with heart. Worse thing I could say is the over sentimentality, but give me all the sap you got. It’s basically me and three of my friends lives combined. You’ll probably find some of the same similarities. In the first 30 min I had to pause it six times because I didn’t want to miss anything during my fits of laughter. And by the end bawling my eyes out. Fantastic mainly unknown cast. The parent scenes are gold."
"YALL WANT A MOVIE OF THE SUMMER?? THIS THE MOVIE OF THE SUMMER!!! i got a little annoyed when this lent into tropes too much but i can’t blame them. it was a great take. i commend them for what they did w the parent characters, something that gets ignored a lot in these teen-focused movies. INCREDIBLE insane performance by conor sherry. just knocked it out of the park!! gabriel labelle took a backseat in the 2nd half but i still enjoyed his presence. nick robinson is comfort personified. overall a great lil summer adventure that’s got a lot of heart and witty 90s dialogue."
"Wow this felt like someone asked "how many swears can we put in?" And the writers said "yes". The exaggerated amount of drinking felt like it was in place for the plot and was annoying.
The characters were also very annoying and the character development was minimal. It also felt like if they were 15/16 it would have made more sense than 14. Like 14 is really young. Moose was such a bad influence and also he kind of caused a lot of the minor problems in this movie. The girl (I don't remember her name) was so weird. Like very flaky. Why you a sixteen year old trying to get with two different 14 year olds. Felt a little like she was taking advantage of the fact that she was older like it felt weird. Also she be jumping between Moose and AJ like girl sit down. The only character I liked was Shane and then the movie decided to be like dark and deep in the last 10 minutes of the movie after trying to be a comedy the whole time like I was not a fan of that. Also by the end of the movie nothing changed. SPOILERS AHEAD. Like the girl left, they killed Shane and the best friends made up but no one changed for the better really and I just didn't get what the point of the movie was supposed to be? Was it to just drink and swear as much as you can cuz that's all I got.
If you're still here I gave it 3 stars cuz there were some parts that made me laugh and I finished the movie so it couldn't have been that bad. "
"Relatable and real. Feels like a summer of the early eighties set to music of the late 80’s about a couple of coming of age friends using poor judgement, while the setting of the film is encompassing the realities of life. Laugh, get frustrating with manipulation of others and even cry. Very Real and Very Good Movie. "
