"A standout book. Brilliant and scary in its current relevance. I was relieved by the theme of resilience in this book. Society may have been in a state of decay, but the main character maintained a hopeful and intelligent resilience that I think can be translated well to anyone who doesn't want to fall into fear and despair. There were a lot of good takeaways from this book. There were so many noteworthy passages that I sat with and thought about. I will definitely read this again. "
"A powerful read. The fact that the events in this book are so similar to current events in today’s world is terrifying. "

"It pains me to say this but I really did not like this book. I struggled reading and finishing this. I had to put it down on page 164. I liked the science fiction components but the religious stuff was a lot for me personally. However it was beautifully written and a great wake up call. "

"This book had good reviews and dystopian sci-fi is one of my favorite genres. From beginning to end, this book did not disappoint. Set in a mid-2020s USA imploding from crime, poverty, and income inequality, Butler's vision encapsulates our worst fears about living in a failed state--the idea of which is even more tangible in 2022 than 30 years earlier when the book was originally published; a true mark of literary genius. "
"I listened to this book on audio in the few weeks leading up to the 2016 November presidential elections. I felt like this book was the most relevant thing I could possibly have been reading. Yet again Butler shows her amazing capacity to write science fiction that helps us interrogate our society. This was a tough listen because it hits home so hard, but I love the way she writes the parables at the start of chapters which are written by the main character. God is Change <3<3<3"
