Kacen Callender
A Stonewall Honor Book * A Time Magazine Best YA Book of All TimeFrom Stonewall and Lambda Award–winning author Kacen Callender comes a revelatory YA novel about a transgender teen grappling with identity and self-discovery while falling in love for the first time.Felix Love has never been in love—and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many—Black, queer, and transgender—to ever get his own happily-ever-after.When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages—after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned—Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi–love triangle....But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself.Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve."Felix is attending an ultracompetitive arts summer program to have a better shot at a full scholarship to Brown when someone posts Felix’s dead name beside photos of him, pre-transition, in the school’s lobby. Felix’s plot to get revenge throws him onto the path of love and self-discovery." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

"I wish I loved this book. It’s so rare to find an #ownvoices POC transmasc author writing about POC transmasc experiences. When it’s good, it’s so good. I love the diversity, I love Leah, and the scenes of confrontation with the people who manipulate Felix are excellent. But the scenes where Felix talks about his medical transitioning the author consistently gets wrong. I started my transition at Callen Lorde- I very much understand the systems discussed in the book."
"A beautiful story about finding the importance and value in yourself, as well as your very identity. It shows the effects of love, heart ache, and the struggles that many LGBTQ+ youth experience every day, the hate that they are subjected to. This story also shows the importance of being true not only to others, but yourself. An amazing emotional journey that everyone should read. ❤️"
"There are things I love about this book and things I didn’t love. I enjoyed the story and the romantic immersions where not many books I grew up with had. The story actually helped me in terms of my own identity. I felt like the main character was too full of himself and too self pompous without sharing the blame. Other than that, I enjoyed my time with this story."
"I really enjoyed this coming of age novel about navigating relationships, identity, & tackling self doubt. It touches on so many important topics for young adults & honestly anyone at any age who may not fit society's view of who you're supposed to be in relation to sexuality, gender, race, & socioeconomics. Beautiful story & touching characters #lgbt #transgender #lgbtq #drama #comedy #identity #coming_of_age #young_adult_fiction #ya #youngadult #social_themes #romance #love #acceptance "
""You've been so courageous, just by being yourself, even knowing that the world won't always accept you for who you are. You refuse to be anything but yourself, no matter what."<br/><br/>Felix Ever After was so sweet, and I loved reading it. I liked the characters, and I was hooked from the beginning. I appreciated that a lot of this book was about questioning, and it was very easy to connect with this story. I know this review isn't very long, but just know that this book is good & you should read it. <br/><br/>CW - transphobia, deadnaming, bullying"
