"[SPOILER IN TRIGGER WARNING] Combined Lovecraftian horror with a writing style reminiscent of Stephen King; the story devolving more and more into a hellscape past anything we can call normal. I think this story was way stronger and more engaging than The Troop (although they're both good). TW: dogs die. References to SA. Gore, obviously. "

"I just...don't know. This book was horrifying and addicting. It was disgusting and disturbing and any other word you can think of to describe it. However, it was good. <br/><br/>This book makes you feel claustrophobic, and at times, like something / someone is behind you or touching you. Cutter is creative, and really gets into your head. <br/><br/>I did not want to read this book before bed. My life is full of thrillers, horror, and true crime, and I had to swap this one out for a YA book at night to get it out of my head. <br/><br/>It was quite gory, and I had to skim some parts (animal-related stuff). It seems to be a recurring element, unfortunately. <br/><br/>It would have been perfect if it was 50-100 pages shorter. I think part of what makes The Shining so terrifying are the points at which things seem like they're okay...for lack of a better phrase right now since I'm drinking and writing this, The Deep has no chill. It's bad or scary moments the entire way through. I need to see the characters in horror novels feel hope, and then have that taken away by the next awful thing that happens. It's a ****** up thing to say, but it's how I feel. There was no hope in this book; it was just 100% dark. I still enjoyed it, though; I just have so many feelings on it.<br/><br/>I've loved both of the Cutter books I've read, so I'm looking forward to reading Little Heaven soon."

"It has been a long time since I have read a book which has managed to give me the creeps. This book did that and so much more. I found myself talking out loud occasionally while reading..."no, don't do that" ..."ewwww..... yuck!"...."eeeeee... .run!" I was so engrossed the entire time. Nick Cutter is truly a gifted author as he is able to transport you away into his story. Deep Down in the Marianas Trench a special research lab has been built to study a foreign substance which has been named "ambrosia". The hope is that this substance can be used as a cure for the "Gets", a mysterious illness that is plaguing humanity, and killing people indiscriminately. A research team has been sent down to the lab, but has suddenly stopped communicating with the surface crew. Luke is being sent down eight miles under the Pacific Ocean with Al to find out what is happening down in the Lab and why the communications have stopped. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good Horror story. You know when Stephen King recommends something, it's going to be a good read :) I will definitely be reading more of Nick Cutter's work!"
