"i read this months ago and forgot to write a review on it. but i thought i would share my thoughts on this book anyways. it’s a great **** book, 100%. I don’t agree with other individuals reviews saying it’s a wattpad book at best because it would be trashing the authors writing which I don’t believe is accurate for this book. now it may not be literary greatness, it may not even be on a shelf for those to “must read” or aspire to be a book that is on the showcase of a B&N window. HOWEVER it’s still much better than a wattpad written book. "
"Mid, and I will still stay with the review I stuck with for Haunting Adeline for this one also. Yet, there’s character change. I thought the character change was reasonable yet unpredictable? <— (still don’t know how to elaborate on that.) Sm🌶️t scenes was mostly trigger warning. Be prepared to gag on most of the sm🌶️t. I hope you girlies are mentally well after this. "
"I read the second to finish the Cat and Mouse series. It was a lot. The beginning of this book made me extremely sad/uncomfortable with the trafficking. I know that's what it was meant to do. But wow. Took lots of breaks between reading. Overall it was a very dark book. Not my exact jam, but glad I read both. "

"3.5/5: The author was not lying when she warned people to read at the risk of their mental health. Please take it seriously. It was 22 chapters of straight-up r@pe, abuse, and murder. I’m truthfully very surprised at how well-written these chapters were and the raw emotions of horror they elicited from the readers. I can't honestly say if it was worth it or not. I’m not sure what to feel towards the book and the only reason why I’m giving it such a good starred review is because of the creativity and picture the author painted from her writing. Truly a talent. Moving on to the actual story…Zade’s god complex has gotten bigger than in the first book and I find it hilarious. I honestly think we should have had more pages of Adeline taking down her r@pists and subjecting them to more punishment. The ending with Claire wasn't really a solution to them changing the world which I guess is realistic but not at all satisfying. I hated Adeline's dad, and I’m left wondering what happened to Sibby. All in all. The storyline could have been better but the author's writing is amazing. "
"HD Carlton is an amazing author. I hate romance novels that have too much unrealistic drama. She did an amazing job with proportioning the drama and romance. This was an intense read due to the circumstances of Adeline but it was very important and interesting to see the point of view of a victim of human trafficking. I loved the revenge and her character development so much. Zade is a real one."
"Honestly, words don’t describe this book enough. I do believe it paints a pretty vivid picture on the dark of our world, and how Addie deals with it all. It shows her trauma so well, and how Zade handled it well for a good time. So glad Sunny made another appearance, was not expecting the plot twist, and was surprised Zade lets one of her captors live out of the preference for his girl. Love how Addie grows with this all, and felt the ending to be very fitting for it all. Definitely was so much darker and better coming from the first, and grateful for very minute of it! 🩷"
