"3.5 star.

So after my third book from Agatha Christie I have started to see a pattern. The mystery and the detective work itself is above board. Never have I guessed the murderer and have even made a game of it. Since everyone is equally suspect I just pick one at random in hopes to be right. But these stories are half the pages of your standard books today. As such you have a lot less character depth.

So I couldn't help compare this to And Then There Were None, in which someone was dying every chapter and the suspects kept dwindling. Murder on the Orient Express was more of just a murder then a ton of detective work. Therefore the thrill was gone and just the mechanics remained.

So again, no character depth and in this particular instance it was a shame. I thought some background and personal analysis would have made the ending hit even harder. Although being a short book it was also fast pace which was nice. The ending, as always, was a complete shocker. But I couldn't sympathize with the characters or their reasons."

"This was a really enjoyable read. I was guessing the entire way through, and I was surprised by the ending. This is the only Christie book I've read since I was a kid, so now I definitely want to start reading more. Some deductions are a little extreme, but it was a fun book. I can't wait to watch the movie."
