"I loved this series. When the main character stated what she wanted to do, "I want to kill Anamyanda'meyat'tini(spelling?)", with the device she'd spent years hunting.... oh it was so powerful. It gave me goosebumps, and still does. I really hope she writes more books, because she left some very interesting things unfinished. And reading novels where everyone is referred to as a female, was at first off-putting and then fascinating!"

"I usually only give a book three chapters/200 pages (or about two hours if it's an audiobook) before I decide if it's going to be a DNF for me, but because I had waited months to get the book and had really really wanted to enjoy it, I actually gave this one twice that amount... And I still just couldn't get into it. I found most of the supporting characters more annoying than engrossing, and the entire first third of the novel was almost entirely politics with a dash of philosophy thrown in for good measure, both subjects I personally just don't have any sort of patience for. There also just wasn't anything *happening* - it was all walking and watching and talking. And after over four hours of walking and watching and talking, I finally, grudgingly, gave up on the novel. It may very well get better in the second half of the book, and I appreciate that others enjoyed the story. I just have to admit I am not going to be one of them."

"I chose the audio book of this because space sci-fi is one of my least favorite genres, and I since I had to read and finish this, I knew I would if I listened while driving to and from work. Well, I listened to it, but this is definitely the worst audio book I have listened to so far. The narration had very odd pauses, phrasing, and inflections that at times hurt to listen to. Leckie's story is interesting enough for the genre, and I did really get into it in parts, but the performance left too much to be desired.<br/>"
