From the bestselling author of The Mountain Between Us comes the moving story of a man with a painful past, a little girl with a doubtful future, and a shared journey toward healing for both of their hearts. It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives. Before it's over, they'll both know there are painful reasons why crickets cry . . . and that miracles lurk around unexpected corners.“Charming characters and twists that keep the pages turning.” —Southern Living A Southern Living Book of the Month selectionStand-alone contemporary Christian fiction (approx. 85,000 words)Also by Charles Martin: The Water Keeper, The Mountain Between Us, Send Down the Rain, and Chasing Fireflies

"<br/>When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin was a fabulous book. If you are looking for an action packed, on the edge of your seat read, this is not it. It is an easy, beautifully written story that draws you in with real characters and descriptions that make you feel like you are sitting right there. The author’s talent as a wordsmith does require you to be in the mood to read a story that is slower paced and descriptive, but I loved it!Reese is a heart surgeon but no one knows it. He is basically hiding out in a small town living on the lake next to his brother in law fixing up boats. He turned away from medicine after losing his wife Emma. He is drawn into the life of 7 year old Annie whom he meets at her lemonade stand. She is in desperate need of a heart transplant. Their lives become intertwined and Reese has to face his past to help with Annie’s future. This is a book lover’s book, with lots of quotes from classics. It made me feel like I was right there. With its undertones of faith and hope, this is also one that will appeal to readers that don’t like bad language and spice."
