Sam the snowman tells us the story of a young red-nosed reindeer who, after being ousted from the reindeer games because of his glowing nose, teams up with Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the prospector. They run into the Abominable Snowman and find a whole island of misfit toys. Rudolph vows to see if he can get Santa to help the toys, and he goes back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. But Santa's sleigh is fogged in. But when Santa looks over Rudolph, he gets a very bright idea...

"I love that Nona called this a gem. It truly is. When I got older I was mortified to learn that lines had been cut from the tv showings that depicted misogynistic male to female stereotypes but now the lines are a running gag in my house. Truly this one is my favorite of the Rankin and Bass Christmas Specials. I had a special connection to it all my life. There has been a game that I played when I was little and I taught it to my kids. The lines on the iceberg "This Fog is as thick as Peanut Butter." "You mean Pea soup." "You eat what you like and I'll eat what I like. WHAAA ! Land Ho!" "No Kidding!" The game is to say this lines in different verbal style themes to make each other laugh and you can change some words and add some. Like perhaps do an Australian accents for example. When I was little I remember the "Valley girl talk" was funny and popular. "Like Totally Gag me with a spoon!" When my kids were little, the McDonald's commercial with the " Dada Da Da Da! Following every line it became one of my sons renditions of the game. Or you could talk like a pirate when saying it. However theme you say them the trick is to try and make everyone laugh."
