"I watched this movie for the first time last night, & loved it! It’s just got a really #cool & unique vibe like nothing I’ve ever seen before because it’s a #biopic and a #crime #drama about a serious #true subject, but it’s #funny at the same time.
I’ve also never seen John David, Washington (#Denzel’s boy) act in anything before, and now I wanna see everything he’s in… The same for actress Laura Harrier who plays his love-interest in this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love Adam Driver and everything — AND those actors who played the scary, Deliverance-looking Klansmen were perfect, too (another great turn by Paul Walter Hauser from BLACK BIRD) — but JDW was the star here, and I liked the sweet love story that was slow-simmering in the background 😍
There’s a particular scene in this that I absolutely loved — it starts around the 25-minute mark, right after this couple has just attended a Black Panther Party rally meeting✊🏾then something unsettling happens, and to shake it off, this couple goes to a dance bar to let off stream. JDW asks the girl to dance when he hears a good, danceable, #1970s soul music song playing — it’s such a great scene, imo, because it’s cool, it’s happy, it’s fun, and it’s #feelgood ALL AT ONCE — probably one of my all-time favorite scenes from a movie — well, from THIS movie, at least (I suppose I just love feel-good dance scenes), but the movie itself was great — and when the undercover BlacKkKclansman calls and heckles the heck out of David Duke, the (real-life) “Grand Wizard” 🙄 of the KKK at the end of the film, it’s priceless 😂
I definitely recommend this if you e never seen it 👍🏾👍🏾 #comedy #crime #drama #history #biography"
"Although this movie is listed as a comedy, I didn't think it was very funny. That is not to say it wasn't very interesting, it was. It's more that the situation is amusing as opposed to laugh out loud funny. A little on the long side in its runtime, but it flows well and the ending is great. Spike Lee is sometimes "hit or miss" with his movies, but this is a good one. 8/10"
