Megan is an all-American girl. A cheerleader. She has a boyfriend. But Megan doesn't like kissing her boyfriend very much. And she's pretty touchy with her cheerleader friends. Her conservative parents worry that she must be a lesbian and send her off to "sexual redirection" school, where she must, with other lesbians and gays learn how to be straight.

"⭐️👍🏾👍🏾⭐️ To me, this #romcom just gets BETTER WITH AGE because many current BIG NAME actors NOW in their 40s, 50s, & 60s starred in this—They were ONLY in their early 20s - 40s back when this was filmed almost 25 years ago, which was still a time when many LGBTQ+ folks were still struggling to come out. ▪️And I love its #happyending; Megan’s cheer at the end is sweet & adorable 📣🥰 For these reasons alone I still love this flick ♥️
▪️This movie is low key #humorous & #campy 🤩 I love the #satire & the symbolic #ArtHouse #SetDesign colors & #costumes💙💕💙 It all reminds me of #JohnWaters’s OG HAIRSPRAY movie. ▪️THEMES of #sexuality #genderroles #socialconformity #homophobia "
"4⭐️ Rewatch. A good campy satire and LGBTQ+ cult classic with serious and heartfelt themes amid a beautifully wondrous cotton candy explosion of a world. It’s a visual and emotionally satisfying delight. Plus WOW what a super stacked cast! Early Natasha Lyonne, Melanie Lynsky and even Michelle Williams. I just wanted to smooshy wooshy smoosh all those chubby baby cheeks 🤣🤣🤣 AND RuPaul and even more awesome well known actors and cameos gleefully having fun with their roles. This movie is really a reminder of how far we’ve come in 25 years. Many were already there in the 90s of course and even though things aren’t perfect now it’s nice to see a record of how attitudes keep evolving.

"Essential viewing. One of the most genuinely honest and heartfelt portrayals of queerness ever put to screen. The performances are just the right amount of campy and goofy, and heartfelt and honest when they need to be. It’s not afraid to pull any punches. Behind the shiny and campy exterior are some really brutal commentaries on homophobia and conversion therapy. This is a testament to how good a movie can be when it has creative people behind it who care about the story and the characters. Made on a minimal budget, but the heart, care, and creativity make this so watchable, and it has several hilarious laugh-out-loud moments."
"Not only is it satirically hilarious, but the deep cut social commentary is really very honest and beautiful. For it’s time this was kind of a loner. I had never seen or heard of anything like it when it came out. I know it’s a super silly movie but it changed my view and ultimately my life. I really didn’t know that I didn’t know anything about who I was, which proves to me that REPRESENTATION MATTERS. It didn’t feel okay to be who I was, so I pretended I just…wasn’t. I think a lot of young people could benefit from films like this one. It brings light to a real issue in a pretty fun and sweet way 💕"
"I loved hearing Zuko’s voice again. I love movies that are 90 minutes.not only because there shorter.2 hours for movies almost always over stays it’s welcome. I laughed a lot more than I ever expected. The situations are just so wacky plus the jokes are actually well written. I really hated the background music though. It really was just annoying and didn’t add anything. I barely noticed it though because I was really engaged by the actual plot. The romance was actually well done and didn’t seemed forced. Their is some dark moments but not too many. I enjoyed it. The only comedy that I liked in a while."
"An essential watch for queer folks and a cult classic for a reason. Incredible writing and direction, plus the cast is a dream. Campy af while handling very real issues that are still relevant today. Beautiful story that happens to capture bi confusion perfectly, though I think that’s just a bonus. Sapphics, this one is a must see. "
"5/10
A fun little movie about stereotypes and navigating queer conversion therapy. Overall it was funny without making fun of queer people. It comes off as being written by someone who is in the lgbtq or at least an ally rather than by someone actually against queer people. Laughing with rather than at."
