"Jesus christ I had no idea I would be emotionally assaulted by this movie. Me and my SO just finished watching The Mule and decided to check out other Eastwood films. We did absolutely no research on it, and figured it would be a pretty normal boxing movie. I expected Rocky, maybe not a happy ending but I didn't expect existential dread. 10/10. Caught me off guard. "
"Something about this movie I didn’t like, can’t put my finger on it. Not one of my fav Clint Eastwood films."

"Genuinely don’t understand why people think this is so devastating (and I cry at anything even remotely sad). The accident was so freaking stupid and cheesy and I just couldn’t take it seriously after that. Also it was about a relationship between a boxer and her coach which is a relationship that I truly don’t care about/can’t relate to one tiny bit. "

"For years I felt like I missed the train on this one. I finally got around to watching it, and boy, I was not prepared for the dark turn it took. I suppose there was a lot of over-shadowing about "protecting yourself" but dang! I was prepared to see a winner and a happy ending. I did not have any spoilers, but I could have accepted a clue that it has a sad ending.
I do think the beauty of this film is in the relationship we see created between trainer/trainee, and transforming over to one more like father/daughter.
It was a well done movie. It just caught me off guard. "
