True-crime writer Ellison Oswald is in a slump; he hasn't had a best seller in more than 10 years and is becoming increasingly desperate for a hit. So, when he discovers the existence of a snuff film showing the deaths of a family, he vows to solve the mystery. He moves his own family into the victims' home and gets to work. However, when old film footage and other clues hint at the presence of a supernatural force, Ellison learns that living in the house may be fatal.

"Ethan Hawke rocked this sh*t the f*€k out. Cool premise, creepy in an accessible but different enough way to keep me interested. This one is pretty fun for all….not a thrill ride, not super twisty like it’s trying too hard, and not super conventional like it hasn’t tried at all lol. If you love horror I feel confident you’ll dig it. Good addition to any October lineup "

"eh. i thought black phone was better. if i'm in the middle of a movie, mocking the 'protagonist' and constructing a better and more satisfying plot for these characters (and the person watching with you likes your idea more than what's on screen), it's probably not a great movie. and when your protagonist says things like jack torrence, i stop caring about him. (also if you're familiar enough with super 8 to set it up in a projector, you're an absolute dingus to not know pausing it on a frame will make the film catch fire.)"

"I just rewatched this movie and decided it's still worth 2 stars. The lead character just makes horrible decision after more horrible decision for himself and his family. This movie also has very slow patches. I guess I need to head back over to Tubi because I've been striking out lately on Max and Peacock."
