Across the Universe

"I’ve been in such a space mood lately and have had this sitting on my shelf for years that I thought it was time to pick it up and I’m glad I did. This story follows Amy and Elder. Amy is going with her parents on this space ship that will supposedly land in three hundred years and when it does, they will be unfrozen and be able to start a new life on this planet however Amy ends up waking up fifty years early. Elder is next in line to become the next eldest, the one who rules the ship. The two of them start navigating life on the ship and realize not everything is as it seems. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the setting of the space ship and you really felt like you were there with the characters. I loved the atmosphere it gave off and was also creeped out by it at the same time. The characters were wonderful. I really cared about the characters and rooted for them and their happiness though they have still quite the ways to go until they get there. The romance, though I enjoyed, I felt was a little unnecessary for the first book. There was a random kiss in the middle that was never talked about or brought up again and it also didn’t change anything for the characters afterwards. I am excited to see the development of their relationship in future books. Overall I really enjoyed this book and if you enjoy light space books that are easy to understand, I definitely recommend this one."

"If you liked "Alone out Here" or "Passengers", then this exploration via a multi- generational ship space adventure will capture your attention. It touches on some topics that some people might not like but I highly enjoyed flipping through the many layers of characters and plot through out this book. 8/10"

"I was going to give this book three stars because about 250 pages through a 400 page book, I felt that nothing important happened, then those last 150 pages happened and you learned exactly what was going on with the Godspeed, why Amy was there, why a particular character (I won't spoil) was killing the people in the cryochambers! EVERYTHING WAS REVEALED AND IT WAS WORTH IT! On to book 2!"

"Fun quick fluffy read. This book tries really hard to be deep and serious and dark, but it is none of those things. It was super easy to figure out the bad guys. I liked most of the characters even though the teenagers did seem a bit childish at times. I raced through it and overall, it was quite enjoyable."

"I wanted to like this one more, but I found it horribly depressing. I'm not sure if that was what I was supposed to be feeling, but after getting to the end I couldn't help but think "That sucks!" on Amy's behalf. But I still liked it and enjoyed the story.<br/><br/>I have been watching a lot of Battlestar Galactica lately and so I was able to full get into this one with the aspect of a floating home for it's inhabitants. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the novel. The who-dun-it storyline. But I was bogged down with the parts I thought were really depressing and I couldn't shake it. I know the other two in the trilogy just might be just as depressing, but I am looking forward to see how it turns out. To see Elder become Eldest and see how or if he can turn things around.<br/><br/>I will be reading the next one, even anticipating I might not get a happier outcome, but the storyline is very interesting and I want to see how it plays out."
