Robert Bloch
Robert Bloch's Psycho captivated a nation when it appeared in 1959. The story was all too real-indeed this classic was inspired by the real-life story of Ed Gein, a psychotic murderer who led a dual life. Alfred Hitchcock too was captivated, and turned the book into one of the most-loved classic films of all time the year after it was released. Norman Bates loves his Mother. She has been dead for the past twenty years, or so people think. Norman knows better though. He has lived with Mother ever since leaving the hospital in the old house up on the hill above the Bates motel. One night Norman spies on a beautiful woman that checks into the hotel as she undresses. Norman can't help but spy on her. Mother is there though. She is there to protect Norman from his filthy thoughts. She is there to protect him with her butcher knife.

"Having seen the movie, I thought it high time I read the book - and I was not disappointed. It is not, and I didn't expect it to be, outright scary. If there was one thing I didn't like about it, it was that I found Bloch seemed to spend a little too much time with Lila and Sam - he should have had a tighter focus on Norman Bates."
""It was the knife that, a moment later, cut off her scream. And her head."<br/><br/>This was such a good story. Confession - I haven't seen either of the movies, but I know the general narrative. I wasn't surprised by the twists because of that, but I still think it was great. I'll be watching the movies soon. I have to say that I think it's absurd that so much recognition goes to the movie instead of the book because this is solid storytelling."
"Still a classic and was still suspenseful even though I have seen the movie"

"Am I rating this so high because I love the movie? Yes. Is that an issue? Nah. <br/><br/>Even though I knew the plot twist, this book was incredibly entertaining and I found myself wanting to finish it. Learning more about the characters by reading this book was great. I definitely recommend if you're into thrillers!"
