Michael Prentice3½☆ This is one of those horror films where they show all the best parts in the trailer. It's fun and has some frightening moments, but I went in expecting more from it. At the very least, we get a good performance from John Noble.

Michael PrenticeIt starts off promising, with some real good creepy moments, but then goes downhill. There is too much backstory for the motivation of the crime, and the direction the story takes is dissatisfying. With one or two changes, "Last Straw" could have been so much better.

Michael PrenticeDark and thought provoking, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel - until the end. Not cheesy, or anything of the like, but rather black-and-white and somewhat unrealistic. It doesn't work with the tone of the rest of the novel.

Michael PrenticeThis is what I generally expect from horror; dark, atmospheric, the feeling of dread throughout, and the absence of a sappy happy ending. Certain elements made think of Bertino's "The Strangers", another great movie in the home invasion subgenre.
