But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.Like that could go wrong. And don't miss the authors' next fun read, My Plain Jane!

"Not bad. A creative reimagining of Tudor history in which England is divided not into Protestants and Catholics, but normal folk<br/>and shape shifters called Ethians. Queen “Bloody” Mary is détermined to root out and destroy the Ethians, whom she sees as perverse; so it’s up to little brother King Edward, bookish cousin Jane and Jane’s unwilling husband Gifford to save the day.<br/><br/>A clever premise but the writing is unforgivably awkward. The secret to successfully blending genres ( historical fiction and fantasy) is to be true to both. The alternate history only works if it feels MOSTLY like real history, yet the authors’ jokey style and leaden anachronisms kept jerking me out of the fantasy. This reads more like an episode of Gossip Girl than either romantic fantasy or historical romance.<br/><br/>Still. I must admit that I was pulling for the various pairs of young lovers to end up together, and wistfully hoping to see them attain a happier fate than they did in real life .<br/><br/><br/><br/>"
"(Not really 4 stars but more than 3.5 stars, maybe a 3.8?) I’m going to say my main issue with this book first to get it out of the way: the pacing. This was among one of the slowest books I’ve ever read, not much really happened, and the fact that this was almost 500 pages did not help. I feel like this book should’ve been a lot quicker paced, especially because I was excited to read this for so long and asked for this book for Christmas. But there were many great parts of this book too. The main thing I liked was the humor, this is one of the funniest YA books I have ever read, definitely for fans of The Princess Bride and similar movies. Did feel like the humor was missing for a long time in many parts, but at least it returned in the final battle. And the shapeshifters were such a random idea, but I loved it. The romance subplot was also beautiful, and I liked that it used historical events, but gave it a (very) fictional spin. Obviously, the pros ended up outweighing the large cons, and I will recommend this for fans of romance, humor, historical fiction, and fantasy-there’s something for everyone. I’ll probably try to continue the series, provided that the issues I found in this one are fixed. "
