"Bad things happen to everyone, especially those who become shields for others. The camaraderie and joking at the beginning contributed more than I expected. I also enjoyed seeing both friends emulating strength for each other. Seeing what they're capable of felt inspiring. The author masterfully combined humor with seriousness, which made this extremely captivating."

"Cradle by Will Wight would have to be my favorite series, the characters feel real and unique, and themes are all about of all different people have different ways to improve themselves and the perseverance/determinatoon to go through with it, which i appreciate. For a stand alone book id have to go with The Martian. It was fun and witty, but also with similar themes of perseverance (at least imo) to Cradle despite the wildly different genres. Sorry for wall of text "
