"This cover is spectacular. Yes I will 100% admit I bought this because of the cover ****. So anyway where did it all go wrong? Viv was a interesting character. A kind giant giving up adventure to live a normal happy life. She was very perceptive and gave all the less fortunate a chance. Besides her affinity for coffee this is all I know about her.
That is where it begins to go wrong. We have characters, we have a story, we even have the perverbial mountain to climb. That is it. It's like the author connected the dots, as required, but the depth and purpose are missing. It's just a step by step instruction to get to point A to point B. The story was even missing that cozy warm feel you get from a coffee shop and it's regular customers.
At some point you learn Viv has an enemy. There is no time line filled in but there is a why. And thats it. You meet the enemy. He is nothing more than a place holder for a name. The friends I will admit get a bit more depth but still there is that nagging feeling that something is missing. Relatablity.
Also the races are not explained or detailed. Like I should know what they look like. So the world building was lacking. I could only picture the characters that were on the cover. And I know that it was the point of the story to go from adventure to normal life but I found it to be very boring. I mean problems arose and were resolved without very much effort. Friendships were made in a blink.
There was even a sort of love interest though it didn’t feel genuine to me. It was just another right place, we are both are single, kind of situation. There was no background, no structure supporting all these claims or the characters themselves."
"Cozy fantasy, that had great character building and a feel-good plot"
