When reserved flight attendant Bianca gets one look at billionaire hotel owner James Cavendish, she loses all of her hard-won composure. For a girl who can easily juggle a tray of champagne flutes at 35,000 feet in three inch heels, she finds herself shockingly weak-kneed from their first encounter. The normally unruffled Bianca can't seem to look away from his electrifying turquoise gaze. They hold a challenge, and a promise, that she finds impossible to resist, and she is a girl who is used to saying no and meaning it. Bianca is accustomed to dealing with supermodels and movie stars in her job as a first class flight attendant, but James Cavendish puts them all to shame in the looks department. If only it were just his looks that she found so irresistible about the intimidating man, Bianca could have ignored his attentions. But what tempts her like never before is the dominant pull he seems to have over her from the moment they meet, and the promise of pleasure, and pain, that she reads in his eyes. This book is intended for ages 18 and up.

"One of the very first books I read when I started reading romance. Loved it and always wanted to relisten to it.

REVIEW after I did a re-listen:

Okay, this still holds up in many ways. And didn't in some others.

The first time I listened to this, I was in high school, obsessed with romance books, but I was not very critical, lol.

But now, as a mature woman, this is a 3 star read now. (I rated it 5 stars before lol.)

Things I still love about this book:

Bianca, yes, she is a bit judgy about Melissa, her "gold digger" colleague, which to me feels unnecessarily catty, and I dislike the way she and Stephan talk about her, but I honestly appreciate the boundaries that Bianca protects herself with.

Bianca has a paindul past and a perfectly arranged life, and she wasn't willing to easily mess that up because of James. And I appreciate a woman with a good head on her shoulders. And Bianca is a decent heroine.

Trust me, it's harder to find a decent heroine in romance these days.

All the heroines I read these days are either doormats or dangerously lacking personality.

And I still loved Bianca and Stephan's friendship. Over the years, I have come to dislike gay men in the closet and never wish to read about that. One of the main reasons I've chosen to stay away from MM.

But Stephan's love life didn't take much space in this book, which I appreciated. Their friendship is great!

James. Look, I like James. Does he have a virginity fetish? Perhaps.

Does that make me feel gross? Yes.

Which leads me to another reason why this book was downgraded to 3 stars.

"You can think Stephan for helping keep my virginity intact..."

Ew, that was a gross line, right?

Why would a man thank another man, not for saving a woman for being raped, but for making sure she remained a virgin?

Ew, my skin crawled with that line.

I am starting to hate female virginity in romance books. It didn't use to bother me much, cause I was a virgin back when I read this, and I still am a virgin now, but making it this big deal and fetishy is sooooo bizarre.

So that is one point against our hero.

But I do appreciate how James conveys exactly what he wants. He not only says it, but he shows in many other ways with Bianca.

And the chemistry still holds up, even though now as a more mature listener, I notice how amateurish the writing is.

It's not the best writing, but I think this book will always hold a special place for me because of the nostalgia."
"I enjoyed this book and managed to read it one afternoon. The story is a bit fast paced and seems to leave a lot of blanks when it comes to character development.
I liked that both of these people have issues but my issue comes when they deal with their issues. People are inherently complex and in places this book seemed to neglect those complexities.
A good and I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story line with a good romp but it's not one of my favorites."
"I loved it. "
