For me, this was a really slow burn. The twist at the end wasn’t as nearly shocking as I was hoping it would be. I did enjoy reading more about the publishing world, but all in all only 2.5 stars for me.

Thank you to Celadon books for the gifted copy.30:T5e6,This was excruciating to get through. At first it just seemed a slow start, but it just kept dragging. I generally prefer not knowing or not figuring out the twist in books, but if I do, I feel the story can still be strong or the characters well-developed, that you're still interested in finding out how it all comes together and ends.

This was none of that. I figured out the "villain" and then the greatest plot that ever plotted (I say sarcastically but there was this build-up of it, like it had never existed until this book) and that was even before the half way point. I just kept reading, and reading, and skimming, and skimming, wondering how much more can this story drag on until the conclusion. This might've worked as a short story or a novella but was 150+ pages too long. The ending didn't do much for me (and it's going to be a series?? what?!!) but honestly I was just so relieved to be finished.

I also didn't get why he was so worked up about this "stolen" plot. He didn't take Evan's actual writing, just a general outline. Isn't that nature of a lot of creative works? Now if he had known it was a true story of Evan's family, I would agree that was overstepping. But he didn't. Which I also didn't get why Anna had such anger towards him about it. Why not just say "hey this is my story" or better yet not, and no one would've known it was true. But I guess she was a sociopath or whatever. It just seemed a weak reason in my mind to go after him.
