"This book was one of Christie’s passion projects - one that she had mapped out for years, but wanted to take her time writing, so she saved it. It’s a fun murder mystery read. It is similar to Knives Out in that the story involves a quirky, rich family patriarch dying under mysterious circumstances in a house where the only suspects are his quirky family members, who are all spoiled and “crooked” in their own ways. The narrator is bland enough that he doesn’t distract too much from the mystery, making it easier for the reader to put themselves in his shoes. Mystery genre rating: 7 - for a fun cast of characters and reminding me of Knives Out; my personal rating: 6 - I finished it, but predicted the ending halfway through and the book itself lacked the depth and detail that I like to lose myself in with these kind of books. It’s one I enjoyed reading, but probably won’t reread or buy."
