"I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who likes paranormal romance/urban fantasy! It took me a little while to get into this book, maybe because it really did just have a slow start or maybe because I waited too long to pick this one up after finishing the last one, I don't really know, but once I got about 80-100 pages in things started to pick up. I'm definitely glad I stuck with it because I've really enjoyed this series! This was a pretty big book but it was definitely worth the read in my opinion! I loved getting to see Jem and Tessa! The ending was so emotional, Cassandra did Simon so dirty! I can't wait to see more of Emma and Jules! Next up, The Bane Chronicles!"
"I finally finished the mortal instrument series. It was one of those series that I have been abandoning and coming back to for the last ten years. Overall, I enjoyed it; Cassandra's ability to create characters and worlds and make you care about them is unmatched. The fact that Simon lost his memories was a bit of a curve ball that I didn't enjoy, but it was a creative choice she made, and I respect it. Each and every character was unique and equally lovable in this series. "
"content warnings for this book (let me know if there are any I need to add, I plan to put content warnings in every book in my future classroom library): attempted rape, death, incest, suicide (mentioned), violence, war themes"

"

Twitter || Blog || Pinterest || Tumblr || Instagram"
"City of Heavenly Fire was a great conclusion to this long series. It's a massive, 725 (depending on what version you read) page book that doesn't drag almost at all.

It was amazing to see all the character arcs come to an explosive conclusion. I do have some complaints, but overall it was a very good experience.

First of all, the tone. I find often with books that the author is trying to make us take something too seriously. Especially with 'epic conclusions'. I mostly hate books with absouletly no humor. This book managed to balance out the dark gritty moments that you should expect at the end of a fantasy series with the perfect amounts of sarcasm. There are a few bits when this gets out of hand i.e <spoiler> Jordan's death. I get the Sebastian is a cold bastard and that his nonchalance said something about his character, but his sarcasm cut into Maia's grief. I just feel like that wasn't worth it. </spoiler>

The character development was absouletly beautiful (except in one case). With beautiful lines like: "I'm not someone's absolution. I'm just Maia." People learned to trudge through their grief and cope with the aftermath of the Dark War.

<spoiler> The one instance where I think the characterization falls flat is with Raphael. His last minute betrayal then redemption is just weird. I guess it was to solidify his morally greyness, but we already know that he's not exactly a 'good guy'. He's tried to kill the characters in this series multiple times. We know that in the Mortal War he was only going to join for his own benefit. And was pretty much tricked into helping. It just didn't flow well.

Simon's conclusion made me smile. He looses all of his memories because, lets face it, he didn't want this life. A lot of us might see Asmodeous' curse as a burden because of all he gained throughout his time as a vampire, but I see it as a blessing. Most of us know that he does get his memories back. He does come back to Clary and Izzy. And yeah, it might hurt like hell for his friends to see the confusion in the current moment, but it will benefit everybody later. I bet he didn't want to see Clary grow old and die. </spoiler>

*Sigh* I guess I have to admit... I kind of like Jace now. I hated him because of all his angsty **** in the past, but now he doesn't really have any angsty **** about him. And he's actually a bit funny. For example.

"Sure he likes you," said Alec. "You're heterosexual and have low expectations in father figures.
"I think they'll probably put that on my grave stone. 'He Was Heterosexual and Had Low Expectations.'"

and

"We've been here before, haven't we? Last time you were starving, I gave you my blood. It was a little homoerotic, maybe, but I'm secure in my sexuality."

My brain is pretty much fried because I'm sick, so that's pretty much all I have to say. But here's some things I've highlighted. (Spoilers, btw)

"Ah," said Jace. "But my services are free."
"I heard that about you."

"Maureen wants to touch you," Clary said, "Bad touch."
"Silence, Fray."

"They were not," said Meliorn with satisfaction. I'd like to point out I wrote: Meliorn, you're a ***" by this. I have no clue why.

"Shadowhunter lapdog," snapped Meliorn. I also wrote: shut up, you ungrateful *** by this. I don't know why I kept on calling Meliorn a ***, but apparently I was in a mood.

"Were bicycles involved in some kinky way? Vacuum cleaners? Umbrellas?"
"Big umbrellas, or the little king you get with drinks?"

"Okay, but what about the Jace thing?"
"I don't know. That part's just weird."

"Please don't rip my hand off," Magnus said. "I like that hand. I NEED that hand."

"Your loss," he said. "If you'd gone in, I would have let you, but honestly, it would have been a pity hug."

"How do you people stand snow?"
"You people? Do you mean werewolves?"
"I mean East Coasters."

"I think Zachariah just stole our cat. I swear I saw him putting Church into the back seat." "
