I will never be controlled again. A manipulative dragon shifter. A sexy phaetyn prince. Me? I shouldn't even exist. With peace established in Verald, I should be free; Lord Tyrrik is liberated from his blood oath, after all. But the freedom in Verald is an illusion. If I remain, destruction will surely follow. As soon as I come into my powers, the blood-thirsty emperor of Draecon will know. Even now, he is hunting me. When a Phaetyn prince arrives promising safety, the solution seems perfect. A little too perfect. But is the objective of our group security or something more? Because everyone is telling me what my goals should be. Who do you trust when everyone has lied to you? Should I listen with my head - or my heart? I might not get a choice.

"I'm undecided about this series after reading this. I liked parts, but other parts didn't do it for me. The first book was interesting enough to get me to read the second, but I was hoping this would give me a better idea if I wanted to continue or not.

One of the things that I'm unsure about is Ryn. She's this weird hybrid. I think I liked it almost better when she was just a girl. Maybe even just a Phaetyn. There was something I really liked about them being each other's natural enemy but working together to free themselves. This was the storyline I had hoped for.

I kinda like the relationship. Tyrrik is an interesting character. Sometimes Ryn is too. The thing that is missing is the PTSD one would expect from someone who endured what Ryn did and what Tyrrik was forced to do. It seems to come into play as an after thought, as if the author maybe forgot that it was supposed to be a condition that anyone would have, supernatural or not. It's hard to wrap my head around Ryn barely being 18.

Mating. Being a mate so early in life to a very old dragon shifter. Sometimes this mating stuff just doesn't do it for me. This mystical power that brings two people together. Is it real? Or is it just instinct? There is very little in the way of courting, which Ryn does point out. But also, maybe it's because I'm too far removed from my teens that I find the relationship frustrating at how they deal with each other.

I had hoped this one would decide for me if I wanted to continue or not. It's all up in the air. As the third book isn't out yet, though soon, that might decide it for me. If the book proves memorable, then I'll give it a chance. If it proves to be forgettable, well, I'll forget about it."
"2.5

i dont think im going to continue to the last book.

Again, concept was good but i felt like nothing really happened.
The mating is such a big part of the book and understanding Tyrrick and Ryns relationship but like theres not a lot of info on like why and how it works.
Also this is like YA YA, as in not even fade to black but like legit just makeouts. Mind you the love interest in 109 years old….. so its not giving what it needed to give.
Also, especially in the first book the torturing and violence was super descriptive and brutal, so kinda weird that the author didnt skimp on the gore, but did on the romance.

Branded as dark romance but like how? its legit this one guy pining for her"
