For readers of Marieke Nijkamp's This Is Where It Ends, a powerful and timely contemporary classic about the aftermath of a school shooting. Five months ago, Valerie Leftman's boyfriend, Nick, opened fire on their school cafeteria. Shot trying to stop him, Valerie inadvertently saved the life of a classmate, but was implicated in the shootings because of the list she helped create. A list of people and things she and Nick hated. The list he used to pick his targets. Now, after a summer of seclusion, Val is forced to confront her guilt as she returns to school to complete her senior year. Haunted by the memory of the boyfriend she still loves and navigating rocky relationships with her family, former friends, and the girl whose life she saved, Val must come to grips with the tragedy that took place and her role in it, in order to make amends and move on with her life. Jennifer Brown's critically acclaimed novel now includes the bonus novella Say Something, another arresting Hate List story.

"Wow, this book. I struggled not to cry in class reading this. Finished it in 2 days, I couldn’t stop reading. It felt so real, raw, misunderstood. Valerie has my heart, she was such a strong character who had flaws, but you could see how hard she tried. I resent the father for treating her that way, but I understood why. This book takes such a real, gut-wrenching subject and displays it in full transparency how messy it is. I will forever remember how Brown’s writing touched my heart."
"I loved reading this book! It showed us the the aftermath of what happens after a school shooting from the perspective of someone involved. We never think of what happened for those involved/related to the shooters and this book did just that. It was a bold idea, but one that was beautifully executed. I was riding a roller coaster of emotions for Valery. Anger at her dad, disappointment in her, even pride when she began to heal. I loved Dr. Helier too. He was the best damn psychologist (as I assumed he was) I’ve ever seen portrayed in a book. Every character had so much care when being written. It was definitely worth the read. I binged it and couldn’t put it down once I started reading.
If you are someone who enjoys books that cover heavy topics and are prepared to cry, you should definitely read this book! 10/10 "

"Riveting - relive a first-person account of a school shooting and it’s snowball aftermath. Emotionally weighted book, but incredible if you can bear the heavy topics."
