Toni Morrison
PULITZER PRIZE WINNER • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A spellbinding novel that transforms history into a story as powerful as Exodus and as intimate as a lullaby. With a new afterword by the author. This "brutally powerful, mesmerizing story” (People) is an unflinchingly look into the abyss of slavery, from the acclaimed Nobel Prize winner.Sethe was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free. Sethe has too many memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. And Sethe’s new home is haunted by the ghost of her baby, who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved. “A masterwork.... Wonderful.... I can’t imagine American literature without it.” —John Leonard, Los Angeles Times

"🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 I read this for school and was not expecting to like it as much as I did. It takes a minute to get used to Toni Morrison’s writing style and how she jumps from time to time. This is a good read (obvi) but a hard one at times just because of what it is about. Don’t be scared to take breaks or google things is the best advice I could give you. "
"I majored in English and minored in Spanish. One of the courses I took for my major was Women Writers. We were divided into groups and each assigned a novel to read and present. The one for my group was Beloved. We settled on assignments within the group, and mine was 'images'. Simple, right? I tried, lol. But I kept encroaching on someone else's assignment of themes. My list became a complicated mess. But I loved reading the book. Beautiful. "
"Love her books including this one!"

"while i should caution that this book is very heavy and borderline traumatizing as it’s based on a real story about the history of slavery in the US— the writing is absolutely amazing. if you want to learn how to write symbolism, toni morrison is definitely the author for you <3
i had to read this for school but that being said, i found myself returning to re-read it multiple times. it’s not only eye opening but uncomfortably raw to the point where i think everyone should be required to read this book.
