"This book has glided effortlessly into my top 10 favorites of all time. Yes, it’s a vampire book, but also no, it is so much more than any other vampire book I’ve ever read. The main character, and vampire, is so full of empathy and humanity, the different storylines converge beautifully, and despite all the pain throughout the story, you come out of the book tender and full hearted. "This book was so sentimental and a beautiful read about the power of humanity (even if you’re not strictly human). I am so sick of immortal vampire stories where they never seem to think about or mind their immortality; thank god this is not one of them. I loved reading all of Anna’s inner thoughts and struggles and being deeply intrenched in her emotions. She is so full of empathy and love and she truly showcased how much living can hurt. I pretty much knew what was going to happen from the first time we met Leo, but that didn’t make the journey there any less compelling. The entire time I was hoping that what I thought was going to happen would happen and I was so gratified when it was pulled off. I have never felt so connected to a character, as her anxieties and fears reflected mine. I’ve recommended this book to so many people because, although it’s heart-wrenching, the journey (and the ending) is worth it. "
"I went into this book thinking it would be similar to Anne Rice with vampires on the prowl. However, this book wasn’t focused on vampires, but more on love and family.

This was the life of a young girl who died due to a virus that struck her entire village 200 years earlier. Her grandfather gave her a chance to live forever again, yet she was on her own and was never prepared to live alone and amongst adults.
This was her story of how she was able to grow up as a vampire and still feel like she was only a child.

Great story and well done, but it was overall too long.
3.5 stars"
"This is an altogether different kind of “vampire” book. The word vampire is never used in the book’s content at all and it is a profound book with excellent character development, and a good plot. I don’t read books about vampires as a rule but this one I liked because of the humanistic quality of the characters and the more realistic view of a mythical entity "

"This book is well written and painful. I have had the misfortune of reading some pretty awful reviews of this book by readers who seemingly forgot what the book was about. The God of Endings is not a whirling tale of vampires and gore, it is the story of a small girl, orphaned in the 1800’s, brutalized and neglected by the only remaining adults in her village, then turned into an immortal without her consent. Just as she is coming grips with this new reality, she is swept away across the ocean only to face more loss, more brutality, more pain…. All the while struggling with language barriers and fear of people, the damage they could and will ultimately inflict upon her. Every new beginning she attempts, every turn and dip she makes, none of it can tear her off her path straight into tragedy and The God of Endings."
