Edward Powys Mathers
Over half a million copies sold Six murders. One hundred pages. Millions of possible combinations... but only one is correct. Can you solve Torquemada's murder mystery? In 1934, the Observer's cryptic crossword compiler, Edward Powys Mathers (aka Torquemada), released a novel that was simultaneously a murder mystery and the most fiendishly difficult literary puzzle ever written. The pages have been printed in an entirely haphazard order, but it is possible - through logic and intelligent reading - to sort the pages into the only correct order, revealing six murder victims and their respective murderers. Only three puzzlers have ever solved the mystery of Cain's Jawbone: do you have what it takes to join their ranks? Please note: this puzzle is extremely difficult and not for the faint-hearted.

"I am so confused.

I know you’re supposed to try to solve this while you read, but how? I read this for enjoyment & for fun & didn’t take it too seriously, but this is so confusing. I had a good time reading & trying to figure out who the killer was, but this is so weird. The writing style is genius, but all over the place. I enjoy mysteries & trying to figure out who the killer is (and I’m pretty good at that in all honesty) but this was next level. There wasn’t anything wrong with this book, it just wasn’t for me. Props to all those people who read it & go hardcore investigation mode, but I’m on vacation and didn’t want to do that. Maybe I read this at the wrong time, but I still read it. So here we are lol"
