THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER'Glorious . . . a tale that will sweep you away' Yangsze Choo, New York Times bestselling author of The Night Tiger'A gorgeous and thrilling paean to the ferocious power of women' Laini Taylor, New York Times bestselling author of Strange the DreamerIn 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the three Eastwood sisters join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote - and perhaps not even to live - the sisters must delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances, and heal the bond between them if they want to survive. There's no such thing as witches. But there will be.Praise for The Once and Future Witches:'A brilliant dazzle of a book . . . "So much fun. Totally escapist storyline, beautifully written, with empowerment themes that weave magic through a historical fiction setting. Lush writing that draws you into the scene instantly and transports you to small dusty towns or cold seaside New England, or some green countryside. You do a lot of cheering for the good and celebrating when the bad fails. An absolute feel-good read, but still a very smartly crafted story."
"Beautiful writing, loved the tales and poems but unfortunately only made it through to page 174/500 (30%). I just couldn't get into this story. Slow paced, lots of rambling and not engaging enough to keep me interested. Not even sure where the plot was leading to at this point but I'm moving on.<br/>Dnf."
"My original thoughts from when I was around 20% in were absolutely correct. This was so good. The representation. The way it was so carefully discussed. The historical events of the time. A book about witches, women's rights - voting, abortion, and being able to choose motherhood, the civil rights movement, sexuality, the impact of child abuse and parentification on those adults. Family dynamics. I hadn't even realized I had connected to Juniper the way I did until the epilogue. Yea, I cried for a couple seconds. It was good. I want more."
