"I'm going to say 4.5 stars actually. The beginning of the book was about 100 pages too long and after I got bored, I skipped ahead to see when Viggo and Violet find each other and then went back and skimmed through. After that, I blew through the book in record time. I can't help it if rebellions against corrupt, dystopian governments are a trope that I never tire of. Thankfully a rebel group fighting for equality was revealed in this book because the whole misogynists vs misandrists war needs a solution in sight.

I know a lot of people are saying the romance is forced and Viggo is pretty much an entirely different character. But Viggo's POV was never actually given in the first book. All you have to go by were his perceived behaviors. In the first book when he invited Violet to his fight, he winked at her before the second round. I don't know what kind of character other people thought him to be, but I thought him to be extremely withdrawn to protect himself from further emotional pain. By winking at Violet, it's clear she started to break through that tough exterior, only keeping up appearances in public because of Violet's marriage. After Lee died and they were alone in The Green, what was the point of keeping that emotional barrier up? Although he did at first for a while. I also think his repeated attempts to sacrifice his life to save Violet is less about romance and more about his grief of not saving his late wife. Maybe I'm looking too deep, but I enjoyed the book because of all this."
