Topic: Kick-Ass

I recently finished watching Kick-Ass. I saw them out of order, seeing Kick-Ass 2 first. I still enjoyed it. I like and recommend both if you appreciate films that are on the darker side and would like something superhero other than Marvel or DC. Who else found enjoyment watching them? Does anyone have any criticisms or is there something that you found disappointing?

Brandon Reed I still haven't seen the second one, but I liked the first one a lot. I like the plot element of a kid randomly just saying, "Why not me?"

Russ Hoyt I enjoyed the 2nd one as much as the 1st. I suppose that could be because I watched that one 1st. I definitely think that you would enjoy seeing the 2nd one. Put it on your watch list so when an opportunity presents itself you are prepared. Remember, expectations are high 😆🤪

Claire Freeman I’ve not seen either but isn’t one of those the movie Jim Carrey said he wished he had not done after the Sandy Hook shootings??

Russ Hoyt Jim Carrey wasn’t in either of them.

Claire Freeman I just looked it up and it says Jim Carrey is indeed in Kick Ass 2 but he said in the press he regretted doing it bc of the violence & its role in the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings.

Forrest Fujio-Gates Okay. So the movies were changed from the comic to make them universally less dark. In some places this works pretty well and in some it doesn't. Like they took out a good deal of the misogyny in regards to the girl Kick-Ass likes which is a positive change imo but, so in the book Big Daddy is like a total larper who sold his comic collection to afford all the stuff he has and has been lying to everyone including Hit-Girl about it. And I think lightening his character up does a disservice to the satire.

Dee I agree, big daddy is much better in the comics tbf lmao

Dee I was recently introduced to the kickass trilogy and it it so good. The second one is not as enjoyable as the first. It is just a lot of bottomless humor that drags on way too long before getting to the genuine plot point, still a good movie tho!!

Sandra I watched the first one and didn't LOVE it but I did enjoy it. Something different. I've never watched the sequel however. How does it compare with the first one? Is it better?

Russ Hoyt I thought enjoyed both. Some people have expressed that they like the first one more. I think that they are both worth watching.
