The original Ranma 1/2 won the tiebreaker coin toss for #otakuclub! Please join me in watching the first season of this long-running, legendary comedy, and we'll discuss at a later date. Please be warned that the original version of this show does include female (and 1/2 female) partial nudity, although, if I remember correctly, it's used for comedic effect (accidental bathroom overcrowding and things like that). Thanks! And special thanks to @lyzander_cross for making the original suggestion!

Brandon Reed We're watching just the first season, but you're welcome to watch the rest of the series and post a discussion. I may even watch the whole thing, again. It's been eighteen years, probably?

Nona Lisa Ok, thanks!

lyzander cross I'm going to re-watch the original for the discussion of course but right now I'm watching the remake and peasently surprised to find out it's dubbed I don't know why I couldn't find a English vocal cast for it listed online. Sadly the art style is worse than the preview even led me to suspect and I'm only 2 minutes in but I believe I'm correct about them leaning hard into action over comedy I haven't seen one joke yet but I've seen akane smash cinder blocks in slow motion and where introduced to ranma and genma in an action sequence rather than in a dry humor sequence of a panda showing up at the dojo confusing the tendo's (that still may happen later but this start does not bode well imo)

Brandon Reed I started watching the original today. The first scene of that one isn't at the dojo, either. It features Genma and Ranma in their cursed forms fighting in the rain.

lyzander cross Ah forgot about that but I just finished the first episode of the remake and the tone of the humor for the scene at the dojo is entirely different the remake hasn't demonstrated any aptitude for dry humor yet... I'd say there are just as many jokes as in the original but they're of lower quality than I remember from the original I hope it improves but so far the remake is the inferior version imo also I prefer the original English vocals over this cast so far... The only person who sounds better in this version so far is nabiki imo... I especially dislike how genma sounds I haven't gotten to hear how kuno or shampoo sound yet (they had 2 of my favourite vocal performances from the original) but if they also sound bad I'll be severely disappointed

Brandon Reed I hate that, because I REALLY want to watch the remake for the ending. If they botch it too badly, though, they'll never get to DO the ending...
