"I think most people are critiquing this movie a little more harshly BECAUSE it is M. Night Shyamalan's daughter who has co written and directed this film. My thoughts are of the opposite, I thought Ishana Shyamalan made a commendable effort in her directorial debut. Even adopting some of her father's style. The story kept me intrigued all the way through, even though some of the characters actions seemed unrealistic, it just adds to the creepy aesthetic, questioning their bizarre actions. The ending did fall a little flat, but not enough to ruin the entire film. Overall, I liked it. 7.5/10"
"I get how this won’t be for everyone .1. It isn’t really “scary” 2 . No blood or gore or jump scares really 3. And heard many people griping over the “big reveal “ being predictable…. But this movie ,for me anyways, had a great atmosphere going for it and relatively strong acting through out the course of the movie . But I should say I am a sucker for folklore films (so if that ain’t your thing def watch something else lol) and also love when a horror movie can incorporate other emotions outside of just your “standard” fear . "
" A creepy movie about being stuck in the woods with dangerous creatures. Though it gets weaker when it drags on.
Spoiler: The very end is overly happy too. With the lead explaining the whole weird situation to her twin sister. The sister acts totally normal about everything she was told. Like there was nothing odd about it.
Dakota Fanning is good, the direction as well. Like father, like daughter. Shyamalan needed an unnecessary twist. When it should have just ended. Since it goes down hill when it drags."
"I’m a big fan of M Night Shyamalan so even though I heard this film wasn’t that great I still gave it a chance. Plus it was his daughter first feature film. And yeah it was pretty underwhelming. Everybody says the book it’s based on is much better. I also understand how hard it is to adapt books to the big screen most of the time. At best I would say a certain niche audience maybe could get a little more out of it. Definitely wasn’t for me it kinda failed."

"I rate this 3 stars because it did hold my attention throughout the movie. However, it was very weird. These types of movies always have dumb decisions. But some of these were beyond belief even in a fantasy world. It seemed to just throw you into a storyline and not in a good way. The "things" in the woods did look interesting. I don't want to spoil it for anyone."
"Surprisingly Original and Incredibly Well Done. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a scary, suspenseful, interesting, sci-fi blending, and psychologically compelling film. The imagery is beautiful and captivating. The scenes have so much imagination, psychologically provoking interest, and edge of your seat suspense.
I love this film especially as I consider this a profound and deep commentary on history, empathy, and what I believe are commentaries related to dehumanization and power hierarchical dynamics of the past and present. There are many themes around grief, loss, survivor guilt, moral injury, power, belonging, community, academia, science, ethics, and on. Worth the watch and one of my new favorites.
Spoilers beyond this point********** ***************** *****************
Trigger warnings ⚠️ Disturbing imagery, complex trauma dynamics, trauma related grief, survivor guilt - moral injury ptsd dynamics, traumatic death and loss, intense scenes, mild graphic violence, and others. "
