Jesus, a humble Judean carpenter beginning to see that he is the son of God, is drawn into revolutionary action against the Roman occupiers by Judas -- despite his protestations that love, not violence, is the path to salvation. "Slowly making my way through Martin Scorsese’s filmography. This reimagining of the life of Christ was fantastic, thanks to an incredible performance by Willem Dafoe. It’s clear that a majority of Scorsese’s work was heavily influenced by his faith, and this movie is a great entry point to understanding that faith and some of the questions that come along with it. "7/10. This film is based on a blasphemous 1955 novel of the same name. The story is pure fiction and is simply a story using the same characters of the Gospels.
There are some bad special effects (or none) in the production. Willem Dafoe does as good a job as he can in the lead role.
The story is intriguing regarding Jesus being tricked from the Cross by Satan. Upon realization of this lie, Jesus overcomes this "temptation" to ultimately fulfill his destiny and God's will."
"Spent most of the movie extremely positive about it. I like the depictions of biblical figures and the casting choices. There are a lot of cool things about it. I personally both understand and don't understand why a Christian would object to this movie. I understand that its depictions go against every Christian ideal of Jesus and don't understand why you'd want to uphold such an ideal for your mythology. It seems too boring.
However, idk, I might be done with Scorsese. There's something about how his movies are edited or something. They always lose me if they go over 2 hours. I can do three hour long movies just never Scorseses for whatever reason. I always walk away so immediately negative on them because of it."
