"The Amityville Horror (1979) is a horror film based on the supposedly true experiences of the Lutz family after moving into a large house in Amityville, New York. George and Kathy Lutz, along with Kathy’s three children, find what seems like a dream home. However, they soon experience a series of disturbing and supernatural events, including strange noises, unsettling feelings, and disturbing visions.
George becomes increasingly obsessed and disturbed, seemingly affected by a dark presence in the house, while Kathy tries to understand the terrifying occurrences. The family learns that the house was the site of a gruesome mass murder, adding to the horror. The story follows their desperate attempts to escape as the hauntings intensify, ultimately forcing them to flee the house to save themselves. The film delves into themes of possession, fear, and the paranormal, leaving viewers questioning the nature of the haunting and the house's dark past."
"For when it was made, I see why this is a classic film. There are many loose ends at the end of the film. Watching today, it’s hard to not look past how women were treated, and I really didn’t care for the male protagonist. What made this a 4-star instead of a 3-star was the fact that the guy went back for his dog 🥲"
"That was a lot. That was very disturbing. I really say it’s disturbing for the family. I mean George was loosing it. I definitely have some questions..
What happened to Jody? What was Jody..
that’s really my only one. But so much happened. I mean it’s crazy a house can be that haunted. I do believe this was real. I am a Catholic but I do believe in demons but hear me out.. it’s because of stuff such as demonic stuff and all that. I believe that you can easily bring a demon into your life. An example would be ouija, bad prayers, witchcraft. So that’s why I believe in demons and try to stay away from that as much as possible. I’m not trying to target anyone or make anyone feel uncomfortable it’s just how I see it. What I’m really trying to say is it’s almost a personal choice sometimes to let a demon enter your life by making those choices. Yes, this is a completely different story but I’m just making a point. And I also believe in demons because it’s what I would never want in my life and that’s why I have God in my life. I know he will always protect me. But otherwise, this story definitely leaves me feeling disturbed for the family knowing they had to leave their stuff behind and just have no choice but to restart their lives in a way.
I also wanna add I have been close to this house multiple times (not feet or directly in front of it, but definitely minutes.) it’s because I go to Long Island a lot and I have been near the street and the house. I would never visit that house or try to be close to it. I want to avoid that stuff as much as possible.
I definitely think there should be a second movie (I know there is but let me explain) where it explains maybe what happened after they left, if the house calmed down and went back to the way it was before (before the family found it was haunted) if you know what I mean. I really mean if the house stopped with the room being activated and just wonder what happened. Did anyone go back and move in? (Can’t add the rest :/"
