"The banter in this #SciFi #comedy is #hilarious & the 3 main characters are #hysterical. They’re the 3 crime-solving “heroes” in this mystery: The Pimp, the Dealer, & the ‘Ho’ 𝨆 They spit out their witty lines so fast & quick, so definitely have your closed-captioning on so you don’t miss it all! I got a lotta laughs outta the comically absurd situations, the crazy outfits & hairstyles (Jamie Foxx 👀), & the fun references to pop culture.
▪️ I’m definitely gonna have to somehow try to see HOLLOW MAN (2001), the action-horror-SciFi with Kevin Bacon (lots of references to HOLLOW MAN in this film) — I never saw it, but I looked it up on IMDB & it was an Oscar nominee for Best Effects/Visual Effects (7 wins & 15 nominations)"

"Updated with review!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Not as great as I was hoping for but still crazy and wildly original. It took awhile for me to get into but once Diana Ross’s Love Hangover started I was pretty much all in. The surreality and juxtaposition of that scene was disturbing, beautiful and hilarious all at once. Plus I do enjoy a premise that’s not afraid of highlighting serious themes by taking them to ridiculous places.
However the over the top stereotypes inspired from blaxploitation films were kinda jarring (for our more enlightened time - at least in this one thing maybe? 🤣) and a bit tough at first but the entire movie is such a fresh take done with flair, originality and humor. And the message comes through loud and clear without minimizing very real issues, which is exactly what good blaxploitation films did.
Overall not always easy but A+ for its nod to the past yet bringing something inventive and timely for today’s audience.

"Half ode to those great 70’s blaxploitation movies, half super original sci-fi comedy, screenwriter and first time director Juel Taylor paints a beautifully stylish alternate universe where sinister actions are afoot. An all star cast with all three leads, Foxx, Boyega and Parris giving award winning performances. Another “super woke” movie that I’m so glad can be made. "

"It felt really long, it's not funny enough to be called a comedy, there's a plot hole that bothered me, and I just wasn't impressed in general."

"I really enjoyed this one, and if you liked Sorry To Bother You, you have a very good chance of digging this too. Super high key blaxploitation vibes, which I also love. Just a fun movie all around!"
