"Chris Columbus's "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" could be easily written off as a sequel whose only purpose is to replicate the look, feel, story, and general cartoony shenanigans of its predecessor while filling the coffers of all those involved in its making. To be honest, that is what the film is. However, on its way to printing money by exploiting the success of the original film, the sequel winds up a raucous experience that revels in its own delicious absurdity. It may not be an organic continuation of the McCallister saga, but it is a ridiculous amount of fun. Columbus creates a Christmastime NYC that is awash in frost and twinkle lights. The film moves swiftly and bears a very merry look. The cast is, once again, solid, and the addition of Tim Curry and Rob Schneider to the mix is welcome. It's fun, funny, and lively. It's smart enough to know how absurd it is and ride that absurd wave to hilarious effect. Entertaining, appealing, and satisfying, the film may not rise to the status of its predecessor, but it is a clearly worthy follow-up."
