Land of the Dead

"The film was alright. I do like that it shows that zombies can learn. They're already dangerous, bit with direction and guns? Almost unstoppable. Still a few good kills, an alright film."

"Spooktober: You know, I thought that this decades late sequel to the Living Dead series would suffer do to a lack of ideas but if anything it suffers from too many ideas. Ideas about themes and about the universe that these films exist in. The zombies are adapting, there's a whole class based system at the basis of the human areas that's a central focus. There's also charged imagery and theming in regards to US imperialism with the humans technical advancement against... The... Zombies. And like, the zombies are upset by the war crimes committed against them. There's intersections on systematic misogyny, racism, ablism. Also, the main character is the most Blandy Mcprotagonist dude I've maybe ever seen. Honestly, this thing is too bloated with ideas that are too messily handles to say it's great but I absolutely respect it. Like next to Night, Day, and Dawn, which are absolutely fantastic and (for the most part) wholey cohesive and pointed in their theming, it might be hard not to see this as a complete failure but as it's own thing it's a pretty fun and interesting experiment."
