"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/4 Obviously a lot of people are NOT into this film at all..but I’m going to say it. The movie is BETTER than the book. That’s something I don’t say often and quite honestly both are capital double-u Weird. But perhaps since I was expecting it the movie didn’t throw me with that. Plus I felt anything that was changed, added or removed was for the better, fleshing out the story and connecting the events in a more cohesive way, believe it or not. Both the mystery itself and the slow building tension are more intense and less vague while still being vague enough to step up the creep factor. I’m also going to say I don’t understand why people have such a problem with the girl characters when the son is just as bad and super creepy. The girls are both important to establishing the themes and moving the plot forward in their own ways. I’m not getting into all of that other than pointing out that flinging open the curtain on unintended internalized biases is half of what this movie is about. It’s not “ political”. It’s just life. Anyway I do understand why it’s not for everyone. Given my dislike of the book in many ways, surprisingly I find myself in the minority on this one. Oh yes, and I kind of loved the ending. "
"I'm really not sure how I feel about this movie. But this is what I do know... This movie is a slow burn but in a good way. I was totally intrigued for the entirety of the film but disappointed with the ending. The movie's runtime is longer than it needed to be. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions open ended, particularly, why were the animals acting strangely?
It was interesting to see America's sweetheart, Julia Roberts cursing so much and acting like a bitch in this role. I have a little problem with how some of the characters reacted in these bizarre situations. It definitely was well acted by a stellar cast, but at times bordered on feeling like an art house film, but not quite.
It's an interesting watch and has some great cinematic visuals but I can't say that it's for everyone. For all the suspense and intrigue that it built up, the ending just falls a little flat. 7.5/10"
"This gets more confusing before it makes sense, but it does eventually make sense. Essentially this movie is the unfolding of a story, but not really in itself a full story, so it's an interesting watch and while I wouldn't recommend it to everybody, it's still a 9/10 for keeping me fully engaged and the impressive screenplay. "
"What an odd disaster film. The actors were stellar and the plot creepily relatable (it could happen) … the scene with the autopilot Teslas was super freaky! I love seeing Julia in modern films just not real sure about what this was supposed to be? I found myself wanting to choke both family’s daughters! "
"3.5 stars I thought this film was quite good. Unfolded as a mystery. Scary in parts, good actors, I know many didn’t care for the ending but I thought it was good enough. A thought provoking thriller. One criticism, it was extremely slow moving, I think it could have moved a bit faster."
