"A techno-thriller that is both quaint and prescient. It can't shake off its 80s-centric look and feel, but it doesn't need to. The technology may be simple, and the fashions dated, but the film succeeds as an engrossing, well-paced cautionary tale whose themes are universal. Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy are better-than-solid, and director John Badham keeps the electricity high. Nuclear-stakes drama with excitement and well-measured intensity."
"Standing the test of time, minus some 80s cheese. Interesting setup for Broderick and Sheedy!"

"+ In watching movies like Dr. Strangelove and Fail Safe I had more appreciation for this movie. Whereas in the two former examples there was a sense of humor in one and dramatic urgency in the other, WarGames had both, but it also questioned the cynicism of those movies. There seemed to be a rather negative viewpoint in those films (and considering when they were made, for good reason), but in this movie there was an overall sense of hope in the characters and their motives for why they did what they did. It also helped that WarGames features one female character who, though not as central as the male protagonist, still was included more in the unfolding story. Also, it felt like a thriller while not feeling as claustrophobic as similar movies of its type. This is what you get when you marry blockbuster entertainment and cinematic storytelling. We know things will turn out all right in the end, but the filmmakers knew this as well, so it freed them up to create relatable characters and tell the story in a creative way. I knew this would have a happy ending, but I didn't know how the story would resolve. Fun and able to inspire reflective thought. Also, extremely underrated when you consider the brat-pack movies that came out around the same time. One of my personal favorites of all time.
- Wargames is a product of the 80's, which in my opinion, was one of the more cheesey decades in terms of American culture. Certain aspects of the production don't quite hold up, yet this is my personal opinion, and a testament to the storytelling and performances that I didn't care all that much and was able to have a blast.
Overall: A fun, optimistic piece of 80's filmmaking, that is a product of the time, but an antidote to the cynicism of similar classic movies that came twenty years before it. Underrated and overlooked for its time. One of my personal favorites."
"Great great movie! Another 80s classic! It definitely has something for every member of your family in my opinion! (Their is some language to watch out with littles but other than that it’s all good)
This film definitely has a great mix of different genres! You’ll love it, i know I do. 10/10"
